Insights into Digital Product Passports & EU Research

21. Oktober 2025 @ 13:00 - 14:30

Information

As Europe accelerates its transition to a circular economy, Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are emerging as a cornerstone technology. DPPs are digital records that carry essential information about a product’s origin, composition, environmental impact, repairability, and recycling potential—accessible throughout the product’s entire lifecycle. This transparency is crucial for enabling sustainable production, informed consumption, and efficient recycling, all of which are key to the EU’s climate and resource goals.

Challenges

However, the journey toward effective DPP implementation is complex. EU-funded research projects are at the forefront of developing, piloting, and standardizing DPP solutions across sectors such as electronics, and the automotive/aeronautics sectors.

These projects face shared challenges, including:
• Ensuring interoperability and open standards for data exchange
• Balancing transparency with data privacy and security
• Integrating DPPs into diverse supply chains and legacy systems
• Meeting evolving regulatory requirements under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR)
• Engaging stakeholders from manufacturers to recyclers and consumers

Goals

This online webinar will bring together researchers, EU project coordinators, policy experts, and funding representatives to:
• Showcase innovative DPP pilots and prototypes from current EU-funded projects
• Discuss common technical, regulatory, and organizational hurdles
• Explore practical solutions and best practices for cross-sector collaboration
• Identify opportunities for future research, funding, and policy alignment

The session aims to foster dialogue, share knowledge, and accelerate the adoption of DPPs as enablers of the circular economy. Participants will gain insights into how collaborative innovation can overcome barriers and drive real-world impact, supporting Europe’s ambition to lead in sustainability and digital transformation.
